The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has commenced vaccination of female children between the ages of 9 & 14 across the three Senatorial districts of Kwara State against the ravaging Human Papillomavirus disease (HPV).
The disease mostly leads to cervical cancer, threatening the lives of females gender if not attended to on time.
The Social and Behavior Change Officer of UNICEF for Kwara State, Dr. Usman Danlami disclosed this at Bode-Saadu in Moro local government area of Kwara State during the flag-off of a five day Maternal, Neonatal and child Health week where he urged leaders of religious and traditional institutions to assist in correcting some misconceptions around the life saving vaccines.
According to UNICEF, Social Behavior Change Officer, Dr Usman Danlami, UNICEF is currently targeting girls between the ages of 9 & 14 to protect them against the deadly virus, saying the period is the most effective timing to administer the vaccines.

Head of Department of Health in the Local Government and the representative of the Traditional ruler of Lakala, Ahmed Hamzat, assured that they will encourage their people to take part in the vaccination exercise that will take place across the 17 wards of the local government for five days.
According to UNICEF and other health authorities at the gathering, the vaccination is absolutely free, safe, and very potent in combating the HPV and other health issues facing the girl child.
