UNICEF partners Delta State to end open defecation

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa commends United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF for their continued commitment towards the welfare of the children.

Governor Okowa who gave this commendation at government house Asaba when he received the UNICEF chief field officer in Nigeria, Guy Yogo said his government has firm belief that the child had rights while the government would continue to defend the position.

Governor Okowa said his government attaches much importance to the rights of the child which propels his administration to embrace the health insurance scheme.

According to the governor, with support from donor agencies like UNICEF, the state can attain greater heights as his government is working on school curriculum to include some level of skills acquisition.

He regrets that in Nigeria, technical education has been relegated to the background.

The UNICEF chief officer, Guy Yogo, commended Governor Okowa for his people oriented programmes and promised to partner with the state in its health insurance programme a pathway to achieving sustainable development goals in the state.

Other areas Yogo said UNICEF would come in is in building transformative partnership to accelerate results for children and women in Delta State and to also tackle open defecation
