Worried over the prevalence in gender based violence and sexual exploitation in humanitarian settings, the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF in collaboration with Jaspi health and gender development Initiative and other State partners have provided recreation and education materials for 3 IDP camps in Guma local government area of Benue State.
Child protection specialist UNICEF field office Enugu Victor Atuchukwu says it is in line with the UNICEF child protection Sexual and Gender Based Violence response and they are also providing case management for children to identify those with such concerns.
The IDP camps include Uikpam,Bawa and the host camp Ortese.
A novelty football match was organised as such recreational activities could defeat depression and restore their dignity and humanity which will in turn help eliminate cases of gender based violence in the camps.
Apart from these activities and donations the civil society organisations have equally trained over 40 social workers on the response and protection and have provided complaint boxes in the 3 camps for follow up.
