The Cross River State Government has inaugurated state-of-the-art Pressure Swing Absorption Oxygen Plant at the General Hospital in Calabar, marking a significant advancement in the healthcare infrastructure of the state.

The oxygen plant, a multi-million naira project constructed by the United Nations Children’s Fund, Unicef, aims at enhancing medical services and saving lives by providing reliable source of medical oxygen.

During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Bassey Otu, represented by his Deputy, Peter Odey, lauded the initiative and expressed confidence in the transformative impact of the oxygen plant on healthcare delivery in the state.

In his welcome address, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, highlighted the significance of the oxygen plant as not only a critical healthcare facility but also a potential revenue generator capable of sustaining the entire hospital.

Speaking at the event, Unicef representative in Nigeria, Cristian Munduate, who was represented by Chief of Unicef Field Office, Enugu, Juliet Chiluwe underscored the organization’s commitment to bolstering healthcare system in Cross River State.

By producing oxygen on-site, the hospital can reduce its dependency on external suppliers.
