At least 1.372 million children in Nasarawa State are targeted to benefit from the Integrated Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign, scheduled to hold from October 8th to 15th, 2025.

A Health Specialist at UNICEF, Dr. Luqman Ahmed, said this during a Media dialogue on the Integrated Measles-Rubella Vaccine Introduction and Polio Campaign held in Lafia, the State capital.

Measles is a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease which is caused by the measles virus, spreads easily through coughing and sneezing.

Health experts said Rubella, also known as German Measles, is equally a contagious viral infection that presents symptoms similar to measles but is often milder.

According to the UNICEF official, the global body is fully prepared to ensure a smooth and successful exercise, noting that the organization has supported the Nigerian Federal government with vaccine procurement and distribution to all States of the federation.

He also emphasized that Measles and Rubella can be effectively prevented through strong government commitment at both national and sub national levels, backed by partnerships such as UNICEF, WHO, and Gavi, assuring citizens that the vaccine is safe, government-funded, and free for all eligible children aged 9 months to 14 years.

The Nasarawa State Health Educator, of Ishaya Amegwa, explained that the state government has mobilized critical stakeholders, including members of the State House of Assembly, the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), religious leaders, and traditional rulers, to ensure the success of the vaccination campaign.

He commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for publicly endorsing the Measles-Rubella vaccine and for supporting its integration into the State’s routine immunization program.

Other Health experts urged Journalists to use their platforms to promote public awareness, dispel myths, and encourage parents to present their children for vaccination during the campaign.
