United Nations Children’s Fund, Unicef, in collaboration with key partners, is set to support the next round of immunisation for nearly one million children under five across the 16 local government areas of Kwara State, North-Central Nigeria.
Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Professor Nusirat Elelu who was represented by the Director Personnel Finance of the Agency, Olayioye Ajide gave the hint at a media sensitisation meeting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. He said the campaign will tackle polio, measles, rubella, and other preventable diseases, while also strengthening awareness through media engagement.
Authorities reveal that over 700,000 children were vaccinated in the previous round, with a renewed target of one million beneficiaries in the upcoming exercise. The initiative, backed by Unicef and partners, also aims to address misconceptions and boost public confidence in immunisation across communities in Kwara State.
Parents are urged to disregard unfounded rumours and ensure their children are presented for vaccination at designated centres and scheduled times.
Health experts emphasise that sustained media sensitisation remains critical to the success of the immunisation campaign statewide.
