Unites States President, Donald Trump has defended decisions taken in the six weeks since he returned to the White House, insisting that American interest must be top priority.
In his State of the Union adress late on Tuesday at the Capitol, Trump bragged that much has been done by his new administration.
“We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplished in four years or eight years, and we are just getting started,”.
Président Trump cited the dozens of executive orders he had signed on both domestic and foreign issues since getting back into the Oval Office, and maintained that the impact on the American nation had been far reaching.
Trump’s presidential address which is the longest in modern history at more than an hour and 40 minutes touched on the American economy and his loads of tarriff slammed on Canada, Mexico and China, criticising the Biden policy on migration.
Many of the Democratic Congress members and senators in the Chambers held up sat expressless as their Republican colleagues rose to the feet to intermittently appaud Trump, with some holding up cards with “False” written to counter data reeled out by Trump in his address.
Senator Elissa Slotkin, who gave the Democrat party’s response to the address accused Trump of bringing chaos and recklessness to the America insisting that Trump “could walk us right into a recession”.
The first time senator who was once a member of the House of Representatives having a career in the CIA, spoke on the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, saying change is needed “but doesn’t need to be chaotic or make us less safe”.
Slokin, who spoke via vidéo link from Detroit added that cost of living was an issue under Trump.
“Americans made it clear that prices are too high and that government needs to be more responsive to their needs”.
She ended by saying that though the border insecurity needed to be addressed, “America is a nation of immigrants,”.
