The management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital has put in place a state-of-the-art facility targeted at providing high-quality medical care at an affordable price to Nigerians.

The facility is expected to check the urge of those seeking medical treatment abroad due to perceived better quality healthcare and specialized treatment available in other countries.

Statistics show that Nigerians spend a significant amount on medical tourism, with estimates suggesting over one billion lost annually due to healthcare-related travel abroad.

According to the management of the university of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital which provided the facility in Partnership with Patric Health Services, the Premium UPTH
is also aimed at providing high-quality medical care to Nigerians at an affordable price.

The Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Henry Ugboma also noted that the Premium UPTH facility is intended to support the institution’s drive to ensure Nigerians get high-quality medical treatment within the country.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Adaeze Oreh, said the state government would partner UPTH for effective healthcare service delivery to Rivers people and Nigeria at large.

It is the expectation of many Nigerians that the Premium UPTH facility will greatly discourage medical tourism and save the nation the huge foreign exchange that is usually involved in such overseas medical care .
