Authorities of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka say there is only one Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution duely appointed by the University Governing Council.
Carol Arinze-Umobi, a Professor of Law was announced as the new acting Vice Chancellor on Saturday, becoming the first female to head the Federal Government owned University.
Special Adviser to the Vice Chancellor on Public Relations and Special Duties, Emmanuel Ojukwu told Newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital, that Professor Arinze-Umobi resumed duties early Monday.

The aide explained that the University Governing council acted in accordance with the institution’s establishment Act and followed the prescribed process in the appointment of Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi as the acting Vice Chancellor.
Ojukwu notes that the acting capacity will allow for a level playing field for all interested persons that will want to contest for the position of substantive Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
He further explained that Professor Joseph Ikechebelu who is the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration was only given the responsibility to oversea the activities of the institution at the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past VC in June, 2024, pending the appointment of an acting Vice Chancellor by the Governing Council.
