For nearly 48 hours, movement of passengers and goods on the Gwagwalada/Giri axis along the ever busy Abuja-Lokoja expressway has been grounded.
Hundreds to thousands of stranded vehicles and passengers have blocked the highway, with no immediate sign of possible movement in sight.
An eye witness told ait.live that this, was a fallout of a face-off between some personnel of the Nigerian Military and an articulated vehicle driver which led to the blockage of the road by other drivers in protest of the treatment meted out to one of them.
Reports from the location this Thursday, indicate that commercial motorcyclists otherwise known as okada riders are now taking advantage of the situation, charging willing passengers as high as N5,000 to commute them between Gwagwalada and Giri.

Motorists are now left with the options of either waiting for the intervention of relevant persons and authorities to clear the chaotic traffic jamlock, or seek alternative routes out of the gridlock.
Our Correspondent in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city reports that Wednesday’s incident is not the first of its kind, as similar misunderstandings between security operatives and high capacity truck drivers have on a routine basis, resulted in blockage of the expressway, and caused untold hardship to scores of road users from across the country and beyond.
