Nigeria is ready to receive over three thousand of its citizens who are set to be deported by the United States.

Since President Trump re-entered the White House ten days ago, immigration authorities in the US have embarked on an intensive campaign to deport illegal migrants and about three thousand seven hundred Nigerians living in the US could be on their radar.

And now the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission say it is ready to welcome all and any Nigerian who might be affected.

After 10 days in office, President is delivering exactly what he promised when it comes to the deportation of illegal immgrants in the United States.

Thousands have already been placed on flights to their countries of origin mainly in South America.

A new report from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shows exactly how many people from each country face deportation.

As of November 24, 2024, more than 1.4 million non-citizens who don’t have legal status have been ordered to leave the US. Mexico has the most people facing deportation with 252,044, followed by El Salvador with 203,822 people.

ICE, which is in charge of protecting America’s borders from illegal immigration and crime, has already started taking action.

Last Thursday, they arrested hundreds of migrants and flew some out of the country on military planes as Trump’s deportation plan began.

African immigrants, including Nigerians, could be next. About 3,690 Nigerians are said to be at risk of being forcefully sent back home.

Many are now avoiding being seen in public.

There have also be warnings for Africans in the US without legal papers to avoid patronising African markets in their various cities, for fear that ICE agents might be lurking in wait. Others no longer go to work nor take their kids to school.

No deportation plane has yet arrived at any Nigerian airport, but foreign affairs analysts believe, this is just a matter of time.
