A cross-section of Nigerians has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government to see the Travel Advisory Ban issued on fourteen states in the country as another call to improve on strategies that would tackle and reduce the security challenges being faced nationwide.

Citizens who were reacting to the development in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, also want government of the affected states to begin to look inward as the travel ban may come with some economic challenges.

The Travel Advisory ban issued on fourteen states in Nigeria by the United States government is coming at a time of increased security threats nationwide.

Reacting in Yenagoa, the capital city of Bayelsa State, which was also listed, some residents expressed the opinion that the US government was justified in the move, while others see it as a ploy to stigmatise the country.

The respondents want the President and security chiefs to see the Travel Advisory as a wake-up call to energize efforts aimed at tackling security threats, including the current worrisome spate of jailbreaks.

The United States’ reasons for the travel ban include the high level of banditry, piracy, armed robbery, and kidnapping, and are mainly in the north-east and Niger Delta regions of the country.
