Vehicles, Shops burnt as gas explosion rocks Niger State

NIGER

An explosion has reportedly rocked a cooking gas station at the Sabon Wuse area in the Tafa local government area of Niger State, burning down an unspecified number of vehicles, goods and foodstuff.

It was gathered in a viral video that the blast happened when a tanker was offloading cooking gas at a gas filling station before Kalasma petrol filling station along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway in the area.

According to a source, the fire, which started around 11pm on Saturday, February 8, burnt for hours before the arrival of the firefighters.

It was also gathered that the explosion sent shockwaves through surrounding communities as people ran out of their homes scampering for safety.

The fire was said to have extended to parts of a nearby petrol station, adding that shops containing foodstuff and packed vehicles were burnt.

While thanking God that there was no loss of life and no records of anyone sustaining injuries, the source added that it would have been a repeat of the Dikko junction tanker explosion if it happened in the daytime when people were outside doing their business.

This gas station explosion at Sabon Wuse is coming almost a month after the Dikko junction petrol tanker explosion in Niger State that claimed the lives of about 100 persons, injured 69 and burnt 20 shops.
