The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, says recent developments in Venezuela pose a grave danger to international law.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, Guterres warned that the United States military action in Venezuela has worrying implications for regional and global stability.
The UN chief stressed that, regardless of the internal situation in Venezuela, such actions constitute a dangerous precedent, underscoring the need for full respect for international law.

He added that, “Independently of the situation in Venezuela, these developments constitute a dangerous precedent. The Secretary-General continues to emphasize the importance of full respect by all of international law, including the UN Charter.”
Guterres also called on all parties to exercise restraint and engage in inclusive dialogue, in line with human rights and international law.
