The Catholic church marks 956 years since it established the first university as an instrument to further advance the education of man besides spiritual upliftmment.
The Bishop of Sokoto diocese and pro-chancellor of veritas university Bwari Abuja, Hassan Kukah, disclosed this at the thirteenth convocation ceremony, that had fifty-six graduating students with first-class degrees.
The thirteenth convocation of Veritas University, Bwari Abuja, started with a Catholic mass, before the procession of the graduating students, the college of deans, the university council, the vice chancellor, the visitor and the papa nuncio to Nigeria.
In all, seven hundred and ninety-five (795) students were awarded first degrees with fifty-six (56) securing first-class honours.

Among the total number of graduates, 716 were undergraduates, while 79 completed postgraduate programmes, including postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees, and PhDs.
High point of the ceremony was the conferment of honorary degrees on, most reverend Anthony, Obinna, most reverend doctor Alaba Job, engineer Kolawole Adesina and his royal majesty, Professor Epiphany Asinge, the Asagba of Asaba, Delta State
Veritas University was established in 2002 by the Catholic Bishops conference of Nigeria.
