Veteran Labour Leader, now the Director General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, Comrade Issa Aremu, has described the ongoing industrial action by the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, as an abuse of strike as a weapon, saying the development may be due to lack of knowledge on both parties that ought to resolve the issues at a roundtable.

Aremu who disclosed this, during a capacity training for the workers of various agencies on Strategic planning for high and sustainable performance in Ilorin the Kwara State capital, noted that in a sane clime, the strike is basically meant to prove a point to the authorities, to show that there is need for urgent negotiation between the government and the affected unions, without allowing it to drag for too long.

He however maintained that there is a need for both parties to resume negotiations, in order to find lasting solutions to the incessant industrial actions, adding that MINILS will also complement the Federal government’s efforts through capacity training on labour relations for workers in all sectors.

The identified gap between Nard and the federal government must be addressed, to reach a compromise and avert further suffering of the masses.
