Local Government elections held on Saturday in Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria, with reports of voters apathy characterising the exercise.
This was as opposition political parties boycotted the election, accusing the state electoral body of financial inhibition.
On election day, life was normal in Abakaliki, the state capital, with business activities going on unrestricted.
The story of lack of interest in the council election was virtually pronounced in most of the polling units visited in Izzi, Abakaliki, and Onicha Local Government Areas of the state.

The situation however appeared different at Umunaga, the polling unit of the incumbent Governor, Dave Umahi, as appreciable number of voters was turned up for the exercise.
Governor Umahi, who cast his vote, commended what he describes as the peaceful conduct of the election, noting that he was not losing sleep over the criticisms trailing the polls.
Saturday’s council election has been trailed with controversies as opposition parties, shunned the exercise.
