Voters without face masks fear disenfranchisement in Edo Election

Despite the delay to commence voting as at 12 noon at Unit 5 of Oredo Local Government Area in the ongoing Edo governorship poll, fears have emerged that some voters may be disenfranchised for not wearing face masks, in defiance to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, safety guidelines.

This is coming after a long wait under the scorching sun to commence voting in Unit 5 of Oredo Local Government Area.

Former Governor of the State, Lucky Igbinedion, disagreed with the Electoral Officer on disenfranchising eligible voters.

While this policy may be put to question by the voters who had been waiting for the INEC since morning, the fears of the possible spread of the COVID-19 disease due to non-compliance of the NCDC safety guidelines cannot be overlooked.
