Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after making waves at the World Leaders COP30 meeting in Brazil. He led Nigeria’s delegation to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Belém, where he joined world leaders and business bigwigs to discuss the pressing issue of climate change.
At the Leaders’ Climate Summit, Shettima delivered a statement titled “The Rational Soul of Nature,” emphasizing the need for global leaders to recognize the economic value of nature and provide significant funding to protect and restore it. He reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to preserving the planet for future generations.
The Vice President also held talks on carbon market cooperation, aiming to unlock up to $3 billion annually in carbon finance for Nigeria over the next decade. This deal is expected to support the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
