VP Shettima visits IDPs camp in Niger State

Vice President Kashim Shettima visits IDPs camp in Gwada, Shiroro LGA of Niger State

The Federal Government says it has released the total sum of N108 billion to the 36 states with each receiving N3 billion to mitigate the impact of flooding and insecurity bedevilling the country.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, confirmed this when he visited the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in Gwada, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, North-Central Nigeria. He reassured them of Federal Government’s commitment to rid their communities of terrorists and other criminals to ensure their safe return to their ancestral homes.

Niger State has a total number of 46, 853 Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, across 14 camps in 14 local government areas of the state due to terrorists activities.

In Shiroro Local Government Area, which is worst hit by the activities of terrorists, there are 5,823 IDPs in Central Primary School, Gwada alone.

Vice President Shettima while on a sympathy visit to IDPs in Niger State affected by terrorism and flood, assured them of the resolve of the Federal Government to get them back to their ancestral homes as soon as possible.

He also added that President Bola Tinubu is keen towards infrastructure, especially where the recent tanker explosion occurred.

Shettima disclosed that the road where the accident happened was under construction, adding that the Federal Government will continue to do its utmost best to address the challenges of the infrastructure deficit in the country.

Earlier, Governor Umar Bago told the victims affected by terrorism, flood and communal clashes that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Tinubu, has not forgotten them and their plights.

Some of the IDPs, though thankful for the visit and items donated, said that all they want is for them to return home.

On the Vice president’s entourage were the Minister of Information, Muhammed Idris and the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi, both from Niger State; NEMA Director-General; Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

Items donated to the IDPs by the Vice President were mattresses, rice, beans, groundnut oil, salt, soap, and blankets, among others.
