Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents that the over 51-kilometre Port Harcourt Ring Road project will be completed by October this year. This is as he reaffirmed his administration’s determination to deliver critical infrastructure that directly improves the lives of the people.
The Governor said the landmark project reflects his vision of purposeful governance, anchored on people-oriented initiatives that enhance mobility, stimulate economic growth, and make life more meaningful for citizens across the State.
The Port Harcourt Ring Road is one of the most ambitious infrastructure initiatives in Rivers State’s history. Awarded in July 2023 for N195 billion, the project is designed as a major dual-carriageway spanning over 51 kilometres.
It links six Local Government Areas including Port Harcourt, Obio-Akpor, Ikwerre, Eleme, Oyigbo, and Okrika, with multiple flyovers and a significant river-crossing bridge.
One of the benefits of the Ring Road project is its potential to improve connectivity between Port Harcourt city and the surrounding local government areas
The road will support easier movement of goods and services. Traffic congestion is a chronic challenge in Port Harcourt, especially in and around the city centre.
The Ring Road provides alternative pathways for transit vehicles and local commuters, thereby reducing the volume of cars passing through the congested corridors.
Tuesday sees Governor Fubara spending a large part of the day inspecting various arteries of the Ring Road across five local government areas.
Beyond traffic and access, the Ring Road carries aesthetic and civic value:
The inclusion of multiple flyovers, bridges, and structural enhancements elevates the visual appeal of the city’s roads.
The Governor further assures that his administration will fulfill all its promises, stressing that his number one goal is to make the people happy.
