The World Health Organisation says raising sufficient and sustainable revenues is paramount to guaranteeing efficient and equitable access to achieving universal health coverage.
The technical Officer, Health Financing, Public-Private Partnerships, and Universal Health Coverage Life-Course Cluster in Nigeria Francis Ukwuije said this during the 3-day conference of health correspondents in Nasarawa state.
He explained that 10% of the population spend 60% of the total health expenditure as Individuals, and continue to pay from their hard-earned money to cater to other health-related issues.
Ukwuije further explained that
increased revenue collection in Nigeria will help address out-of-pocket expenditures in the health sector
He noted that WHO has supported Nigeria’s health financing to ensure that people have quality services at an affordable cost without the risk of financial hardship linked to paying for care but asked Nigerian government to amplify the effort.
The three-day health conference is in collaboration with the World Health Organisation.
