The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 into law, describing the president’s decision as a strong demonstration of his commitment to deepening democracy and making elections more credible.
In a statement issued Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, Wike praised Tinubu for assenting to the bill less than 24 hours after its passage by the National Assembly. He said the quick move ends unnecessary protests by groups allegedly preparing excuses for future electoral losses.
The minister described democracy as a continuous work-in-progress that improves through regular review and strengthening of the Electoral Act. He congratulated President Tinubu and the National Assembly for their roles in advancing credible elections.
Wike particularly highlighted the President’s speed in signing the bill, stating it shows purposeful leadership and reinforces public trust in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 polls.
