Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has offered scholarships to three indigenes of the state who are recipients of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Presidential Honours Award to train abroad.

The Governor announced the scholarships at a reception held at the Government House Port Harcourt.

He said the state is proud of the selfless and humanitarian service rendered by the three awardees during their NYSC programme.

The three are among the 110 recipients of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC Presidential Honours Award.

Rachel Worlu Orunchi served in Yobe State, where she used her skills as a lawyer, to help free 22 persons who were wrongfully imprisoned.

She also carried out awareness campaigns on gender-based violence and fundamental human rights.

For his part, Gilbert Kiaka Goodness built an ICT Centre and trained over 200 hundred students during his service year in Bayelsa State.

Governor Wike thanked the Awardees for doing Rivers State proud.

And as a reward for their selfless sacrifice, the governor has offered the three of them foreign scholarships.

He also disclosed that his administration has released funds for the payment of tuition fees for Rivers indigenes studying at the PAMO University of Medical Sciences.

And while urging other Rivers youths to emulate the three NYSC Awardees, Governor Wike said his administration will continue to give priority to human capital development.
