Group of women

One in 12 women globally is predicted to be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime and in every 50 seconds somewhere in the world, a woman dies from the disease.

These depressing statistics from international bodies, such as the World Health Organization, WHO and Africa Research Group for Oncology can be changed through increased awareness and access to diagnostic services especially in low income countries where more women are affected.

This was the submission of Speakers in Lagos State during an awareness match in commemoration of the Cancer Awareness month often called Pink October.

Experts say a change in nipple appearance, pain, lump or thickening of the breast skin are common early signs of breast cancer.

However due to ignorance and other factors like lack of access to diagnostic services, many women delay till their conditions deteriorate.

Determined to change this narrative, members of “our journey of hope cancer care ministry” in commemoration of October 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Month embarked on an outreach campaign across major streets in Lagos State preaching the message of early detection to save lives.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths among women globally with a disproportionate number of cases occurring in low income countries.
