The international federation of women lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria has called for prompt action against the recent increase in gender-based violent cases in Nigeria.
The group who made the call in Lokoja alongside members of the state council of the nNational association of women journalists went on a State wide road walk to force victims of violence to speak out while urging the government to sign the violence against persons prohibition bill in to law.
The recent spate of gender based violence especially rape of young ladies which in some cases have ended in death is fast becoming a major cause for concern.
The president of international federation of women lawyers. Ajuma lilian okolo called on the attorneys general of states where such crimes have been committed to remove all bureaucratic bottlenecks preventing the speedy dispensation of justice against the perpetrators.

The groups also called for free medical treatment and psycho-analysis for rape victims and the opening of a sex offenders register in all the states of the Nation.
Other women both at individual and group levels also made their calls to press further their grievances.
Fida Nigeria believes the issue of rape and other forms of violence against defenceless persons is on the rise and it is not given enough prominence because Nigerians refused to speak up when incidents arise.
They say this has to stop with victims becoming bolder in their demand for justice.
