For efforts in clearing pension and gratuity backlogs, prompt payment of workers’ salaries, and implementing labour-friendly policies, the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies has conferred its Fellowship on Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The investiture ceremony took place at the Government House in Kano, with state and national labour leaders in attendance.
Governor Abba Yusuf is the first state governor in Nigeria to implement a minimum wage of seventy-one thousand naira. His administration has also paid over forty billion naira in the backlog of gratuities, pensions, and other entitlements, alongside periodic reviews of workers’ welfare.
The institute says the honour recognises his people-oriented approach to governance, hence the conferment.
Director-General of the institute, Issa Aremu, noted that the 2027 elections will be largely shaped by labour-related issues—an area in which the governor has shown commitment.
This latest recognition adds to several honours received by Governor Yusuf in the past year for achievements in governance, workers’ welfare, infrastructure, and educational development.
