World Athletics disqualifies 10 Nigerian Athletes from Competition

Ten Nigerian Athletes have been disqualified from competing at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The athletes were disqualified for not meeting the minimum testing requirements under Rule 15 governing National Anti-Doping Federations according to a statement from the Athletics Integrity Unit made available to ait.live

The Athletics Integrity Unit is an independent body created by World Athletics that manages all integrity issues, both doping, and non-doping.

A major requirements of Rule 15 is that “an athlete from a ‘Category A’ country must undergo at least three no-notice out-of-competition tests (urine and blood) conducted not longer than 3 weeks interval apart in the 10 months before a major event.

Nigerian Athletes are the most affected from among a total of 20 athletes from seven Countries that were disqualified.

The affected Athletes are yet to be officially disclosed by the Ministry of Sports and the Nigeria Olympic Committee.
