As the world marks the annual world cancer day to raise awareness of the dangers of the disease, the need to sustain the conversation around subsidizing cancer care, particularly among children has been brought to the front burner of national discourse.
Respondents who bared their minds on the subject in Lagos while also calling for early detection expressed concern over the increasing number of children coming down with the disease from the approximate 1.6 million recorded cases annually.
Cancer is a major public health concern across the world.

In Nigeria for instance, about 46 thousand children are said to be diagnosed daily, this is against the former belief that cancer was a predominantly adult disease.
With the risk factors attributed mostly to choice of diet, speakers urged parents to be deliberate about family food choices amongst others.
February 4th of every year is designated as world cancer day, a global event that aims to create awareness about the disease.
The theme for the 2023 celebration is ” Close the Care Gap”
