To ease the Burden of over twenty five million Nigerians living with renal Diseases, Nephrologists have called for more of Government intervention through subsized kidney care, increased Budget allocation for health sector and Local production of medication to reduce cost for patients.
They were speaking during the commemoration of 2026 World Kidney Day where they expressed concerns that about 90% of end stage renal disease Patients were dying within three months of dialysis due to high cost of care.
Tamuno Odigi, a 46 year old Nigeria is an architect who was a happy family man, until his diagnosis of kidney disease in 2025 at the zenith medical centre and that changed everything
He does dialysis three times a week at the cost of 120 thousand per session.
The disease has not only drained his health but his finances.

His situation represents that of about 25 Million Nigerians with kidney disease.
In 2023, about one million four hundred and sixty persons died of kidney disease across the world, a situation experts say is preventable with relevant intervention by the government, especially in Nigeria.
Beyond government intervention, awareness creation is another way to go, and this has become a regular routine for the management of zenith medical and kidney centre in Lagos.
Over two hundred Lagos residents benefited from their free medical intervention to mark the world Kidney Day with the theme ” Caring For People Protecting The planet”
