Did you know that issues like poverty, unemployment, and insecurity in Nigeria are partly caused by politicians who abandoned their social responsibilities in pursuit of the 2027 elections?
Well, this is exactly what the Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese Most Rev. Stephen Mamza is saying.
Speaking during the World Mission Sunday celebration in Abuja, Mamza, who is also the chairman of the Catholic bishops, warned that politicians will be held accountable for their every action now and even during the 2027 general election.
Even when the 2027 general election is still many months away, Nigerian politicians have been deeply enmeshed in political activities, permutations, and defections.
This has generated concerns from citizens who worry that such premature focus on the 2027 elections is a great distraction from the business of governance.
The Catholic bishop of yola diocese, Most Rev. Stephen Mamza, therefore, wants politicians to prioritize governance.
The Bishop encouraged citizens , particularly politicians, to live in the service of the nation for which they will give account.
The Catholic pontiff, Pope Leo the fourteenth, in his message for Mission Sunday 2025, titled “Missionaries of Hope Among All Peoples,” urged Christians to be “messengers and builders of hope” by living and sharing their faith through prayer, service, and support for the Church’s mission.
According to the Catholic pontiff, hope is rooted in the resurrection of Christ and can transform lives, particularly those who are poor, marginalized, or suffering.
