In a bid to provide Comprehensive and Accessible eye care to Nigerians, especially those in hard to reach rural communities, experts are calling for a renewed focus on Advocacy and leveraging on Technology

Speaking in commemoration of the 2025 world Optometry Day in lagos with the theme ” Advance The Optometrist’s role for a brighter future, they Also charged Nigerians to make the habit of eye Check a regular or yearly routine to prevent avoidable blindness.

Optometrists are primary eye health care providers who specialise in diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders affecting the eyes and vision.

At this conference by the Nigerian Optometric Association to mark the 2025 world Optometry Day, upper most on their minds is how to address the leading causes of blindness among Nigerians such as Cataract responsible for about 43 percent of blindness in Adults, glaucoma, Conial opacities and uncorrected refractive errors and other factors of blindness using technology.

World Optometry Day is observed annually on March 23rd to raise Awareness About the importance of eye care and the role of Optometrists In providing comprehensive eye care services, Promoting global eye health and advocating for access to vision care as a human right

While the global theme for world Optometry Day is “Eyes To the future: Optometrists improving global wellness,the national theme by the Nigerian Optometric Association is Advancing the Optometrist’s Role for a brighter future
