WORLD PEACE DAY
WORLD PEACE DAY

As Nigerians join the rest of the world to commemorate this year’s International day of Peace, Traditional rulers, President General of various Communities in Delta state and Religious leaders from Faith based Organisations are charged to use their various platforms to champion peace at all times.

Special Adviser to Delta state governor on Peace and Conflict Resolution Edwin Uzor said the government of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in line with this year’s World Peace Day with the theme “Cultivating a Culture of Peace” has prioritised dialogue as a means of fostering peace in the state citing the Okolobia/ Okuama crisis as a case in point.

The United Nations General Assembly in 1981 set aside every 21st September as a sanctioned holiday to be observed annually. It was later unanimously adopted to be a period of non violence and ceasefire.

In Delta state, Edwin Uzor Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace and Conflict Resolution called on stakeholders to realise how their individual actions can affect and foster peace in and around their localities.

According to Uzor, after the withdrawal of the military, the state Government has done a lot to ensure that the displaced people of Okuama are re resettled through organisational and individual efforts.

Uzor said government at the moment has perfected plans to ensure that permanent peace returns to the area by demarcating the boundary from water to land.
