Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been formally appointed as the next Director-General of World Trade Organisation, WTO.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala makes history as the first woman and first African to lead WTO with her term of office starting on March 1, 2021.

WTO has been without the Director-General for about 6 months with a competitive selection process leading to her emergence as sole candidate following the withdrawal of South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee.
