Anxieties have been rising in Bayelsa State as the negative impacts of the ravaging floods on individuals and families continue to increase every passing hour.
At Okutukutu Community in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, the blockade on a vital canal that carried water through a bridge was the reason for the tensions in the area where individuals who wanted the dam to be removed to allow the free flow of water were prevented by armed security personnel.

The flood situation in nearly all parts of Bayelsa State have been described as unprecedented even as the number of people being progressively displaced by the ravaging deluge increases very sharply.
At Okutukutu Community in Yenagoa ,the Bayelsa capital, some residents who were heavily affected called for demolition of a man-made barrier blocking water from moving freely.
According to the aggrieved persons, the project was done in bad faith, with the aim of stopping water from reaching some affluent neighborhoods while they bore the brunt.
Most of the Okutu-kutu Community, like other areas in Bayelsa state have been submerged by the floods.
The Residents appealed to the government and anyone who can do anything to come to their aid
While the Bayelsa State Government waa yet to officially name any location as the camp for internally displaced persons, considerable amount of affected families have moved into public schools to seek refuge.
