Youths belonging to the Guemai extraction staged a protest over alleged attempt Coronation of an Emir in Nsha Yelwa Community, in Shandam Council Area of Plateau state.
The Situation took a dangerous dimension during a protest which led to an exchange of attacks From both Guemai and Hausa youths over the alleged Coronation attempt.
An eye witness Musa Mazawaje, who spoke to AIT at about 4:15 pm on Friday said” Shendam town is under tension with all shops locked and the youths are on the street, to show their disagreements over the attempt by Governor Simon Lalong, to impose an Emir on them in Yelwa Shendam”.
While confirming the incident to AIT, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command DSP Alfred Alabo said the police and other security operatives have taken over the entire affected area.
As at the time of filling in this report, the State Government is yet to issue an official statement on the matter but relative call was said to be gradually returning to the Shandam town following the deployment of security operatives.
