Hundreds of Youths under the All Progressives Congress Stakeholders Vanguard, have staged a street protest against the selection of a Muslim – Muslim ticket for the ruling party’s presidential candidacy.

They say it may further deepen the frail unity of the country.

Addressing journalists during the peaceful action at the ruling party’s National Headquarters in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the group, Bako Lucas, said the rising issues of insecurity and religious blasphemy are already creating disunity among Muslims and Christians in the North, and such presidential candidates’ pair, may affect the victory of the party’s 2023 elections.

Lucas urged President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, and the National Working Committee, to search thoroughly within the north, as there are patriotic Christians who have served the country in their various capacities, especially in the North-central.

On the flip side, a pro – Tinubu group, responded that the protests against the Muslim-Muslim ticket are being sponsored by unpatriotic politicians, as only credible leaders that can tackle the challenges facing the nation, should be the center of focus.

Last week Wednesday, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, through a signed statement, said the Muslim – Muslim presidential ticket being considered is a declaration of war against the freedom of religion, the peace and security, which may further plunge the country into violence, extremism, and equally destroy the unity of Nigeria.
