The federal government has announced a fifty percent fares subsidy on train services and road travel for the Yutide.

The presidential directive was announced by the minister of mines Development Dele Alake, who heads a committee of the presidential intervention on public transportation, with the fare subsidy taking effect from Thursday, 21st till the 4th of January, next year.

Transportation fares across Nigeria have been on the rise since the removal of petrol subsidy on the 29th May, when the Tinubu administration came on board as he made the announcement at his inauguration.

With the festive season barely days away, fares have skyrocketed by almost a hundred percent, especially for road transportation.

To cushion the impact on the citizenry, for those making interstate trips during this festive period, the federal government says it is stepping in.

On the workability of the arrangement for the road sector, since the Federal government does not run its own bus services, Mr Alake provided some explanations.

Alake, who is the Minister of Mines, added that the Security agencies will be morally mobilized to ensure an implementation of the presidential directive.
