The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Zamfara State Command has arrested one suspected terrorist who was said to have been involved in banditry and the kidnap of seven persons at Jaja Village in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The NSCDC said the arrest of the suspected terrorist at Gummi General Hospital followed a security alert by people in the area.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Zamfara State, Ikor Oche, who paraded the suspect on behalf of the State’s Commandant, Akushie Sparks, said the suspected terrorist was earlier arrested by a troop of the Nigerian Army carrying out an operation in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

He said the suspect, Umar Malami, also known as Babuga, 30 years old, sustained cutlass injury from the military when they were pursuing to arrest him.

He was said to have later escaped and relocated to Gummi Local Government Area to hide.

Suspect Umar Malami denied involvement in any banditry activity in Sokoto and Zamfara States but narrated that he was sleeping when terrorists invaded his residence at Gayari Community in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State and left him with an injury on his head.

Malami said, he went to the hospital to receive medical care when people thought he was a terrorist and informed security operatives who arrested him for what he said he did not know of.

NSCDC said Umar Malami would be handed over to the Nigerian Army in Tambuwal, to take necessary action, along with two of his accomplices who are currently with the military in Sokoto State.
