The Zamfara State House of Assembly has summoned Deputy Governor, Mahdi Gusau, to appear before it on Tuesday, 27th July 2021, over a political rally he conducted last Saturday, despite bandit attacks on Maradun communities at the said period.
A statement by the Director-General, Public Relations of the State Assembly, Mustapha Jaafaru, said the decision to summon the deputy governor followed a motion raised by Yusuf Kanoma, representing Maru North, under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, of the House.
The statement said the rally was organized by the deputy governor barely 24 hours after a massive reprisal attack by bandits on Faru communities in the Maradun Local Government Area of the state.
Kanoma further alleged that while the state was in a mourning mood over the killings of more than 56 innocent people, the Deputy Governor did not show any concern and went on with the political rally, despite efforts by the Commissioner of Police to stop him.
He described the action of the Deputy Governor as undemocratic and uncivilized for the state’s number two man.
The Deputy Governor is also accused of making unguarded utterances during the interview he granted to the media during the rally, where abusive words were said to have been used.

The House Leader, Faruk Musa, said as lawmakers, all actions taken must conform with the law, therefore when summoning the Deputy Governor, a similar invitation should also be sent to the Commissioner of Police, Hussaini Rabi’u, to also appear before the House, to explain whether the deputy governor obtained permission to hold the rally and the efforts police authorities made to stop it from holding
After heated debate, a resolution was passed to summon the deputy governor, Mahdi Gusau, and the state Commissioner of Police, to appear before the House, on Tuesday, 27th July 2021, at 10:00 am.
