Zamfara State Govt donates N100m to flood victims in Gummi LGA

Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal Visits communities affected by flood

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has conducted an on-the-spot assessment of communities ravaged by floods in the Gummi Local Government Area of the State.

The Governor visited the flood-affected communities in the Gummi LGA on Saturday and announced a donation of one hundred million naira, ten thousand bags of assorted grains, blankets and insecticide treated nets to victims.

Governor Dauda Lawal’s entourage began the assessment with a homage to the palace of the Emir of Gummi, His Royal Highness Justice Lawal Hassan retired and thereafter toured Gummi town to express sympathy with the flood victims before proceeding to Gayari town to assess the extent of the damage.

He expressed deep concern after the assessment of the damage caused by the floods and donated ten thousand bags of food, including rice, maize, and millet, as well as one hundred million naira to be distributed to the flood victims.

The governor enjoined the people to support the government to succeed in mitigating impact of flooding in the area by cleaning their gutters, Shun dumping of refuse and building on waterways.

He disclosed that he had constituted a committee being chaired by an elder Stateman Salihu Buhu Gummi to oversee and ensure the immediate distribution of relief materials to displaced households which according To Zamfara Emergency Management Agency ZEMA estimate stood at 9, 874 while houses destroyed were put at 7, 225.

The Emir of Gummi Justice Hassan Lawal retired thanked the governor for the visit in person and the donation of the relief materials to the victims to cushion the effects of the flood disaster on them.
