Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has assured that the remaining abducted National Youth Service Corps members from Akwa Ibom State, enroute to the Sokoto State NYSC Orientation Camp would be rescued unhurt.

The Governor gave the assurance during a visit to the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) headquarters in Abuja, to interact with the top management, on their decision to redeploy 400 corps members of Batch C Stream 1 from Zamfara to Kebbi and Sokoto States.

He said the abduction of the eight Akwa Ibom corps members en route to the Sokoto State NYSC Orientation Camp, has portrayed Zamfara State in bad light.

He says no responsible government would fold its arms and allow the situation to degenerate.

Governor Lawal said, “We have been on this matter since the incident happened, but every day is a different story. It is a matter of time, and I can assure you that the remaining abducted corps members will be rescued safely. I was deeply concerned that corps members of Batch C Stream 1 posted to Zamfara have been redeployed to Kebbi and Sokoto States for their three weeks orientation.”

Dauda Lawal said that he felt, as a responsible governor, needed to interact with the management of the NYSC, to reverse the decision of the redeployment of 400 corps members from Zamfara to Kebbi and Sokoto States.

He described the security situation as a terrible moment for the nation and Zamfara State in particular adding that the security of lives and property is one of the top priorities of his administration.

This explains why it recruited thirty thousand community protection guards to work with security operatives to protect communities from the deadly bandits.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), Yushau Ahmed, said the decision was taken not to punish Zamfara State but for the best interest of all, due to the pressure of parents who were concerned with posting their children to serve in the state.
