The Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki, says the present administration is prioritising girl-child education, and will sustain the gains recorded by the state-gifted students, at the recent National Examination Council, (NECO) Entrance Examination, in which 21 females out of the 30 students from the state excelled.
He said this while addressing teachers in Gusau, the state capital, where he observed that the implementation of the 30, 000 Naira National Minimum Wage, prompt payment of salaries and promotion of teachers, contributed greatly to the exceptional performance of the gifted students.
Zamfara State in Northwest Nigeria has been one of the least educationally developed states, and has always been at the bottom of the education standards in the country, with alarming number of out-of-school children, and poor performance in the West Africa Secondary School Examination Council, (WAEC), and the National Examination Council, (NECO).
But the negative narrative is changing, with the state becoming second in the whole of the country, and first in the Northern States, in the recent National Examination Council, (NECO) Entrance Examination for Gifted Students, with 21 females out of the 30 gifted students from the state.

The Chairperson of Zamfara State Senior Secondary School Education Board, Hauwa Ibrahim, called on women to be role models to girls, to encourage them to embrace education, as a weapon against poverty, especially with entrepreneurial education, now introduced in schools, to instill skills education.
The Zamfara Education Commissioner, while commending the teachers for the good work, urged them to maintain and increase the tempo, so that the state government could achieve the purpose of declaring a state of emergency on education in the state.
