Zamfara Govt. backs eradication of Gender based violence

Zamfara State Government says it has 136 cases of Gender-Based Violence, (GBV) in various courts in the state, with the intent of prosecuting those found culpable.

The state’s Steering Committee Against Gender-Based Violence made this known shortly after a awareness walk, as part of activities marking 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence, GBV, in Gusau, the state capital.

The Walk Awareness Against Gender-Based Violence, GBV, in Zamfara State, led by the First Lady, Aisha Mohammed, took off from the Government House to the Emir of Gusau’s Palace, and to the Zamfara State Police Command, to seek the support of the emir and police who have critical roles to play in ending the social problem.

The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, Ayuba Elkana, pledged the commitment of Police to ensure that cases of Gender-Based Violence, (GBV) are not swept under the carpet.

The Emir of Gusau, Ibrahim Bello, stressed the need for all the relevant stakeholders to continue with aggressive campaign, against all forms of Gender-Based Violence, GBV, until it is eradicated in the state.
