Zamfara Govt orders immediate closure of 4 markets over bandits attacks

Zamfara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Magami, Wanke, Dansadau and Dauran Markets in Gusau, Maru and Zurmi Local Government Areas of the State.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara says the security agencies are directed to ensure strict compliance with the order.

The closure of the said markets follows the resurgence of attacks on some rural communities across the State.

The security operatives have been directed to deal ruthlessly with anyone found violating law and order within and around the affected markets.

The statement says Governor Bello Mohammed is deeply saddened over Wednesday’s attacks on some communities in Magami District of Gusau Local Government Area of the state.

The government noted with dismay, the callous act of terrorism meted on innocent people, carrying out their legitimate businesses in search of food for their families.

The government is disturbed by the senseless killings, maiming and general destruction of lives and property in farming communities.

The State Government had already condoled with the families of the victims and regrets that the evil act happened when the authorities are making every effort to ensure the full return of peace and security.

The government has therefore, ordered the immediate stock-taking of the damages inflicted on the affected communities, to ascertain the number of valuables destroyed, and enable authorities to provide the needed support.

Meanwhile, the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has been directed to as a matter of urgency, mobilise to the affected communities, and provide immediate assistance to the families of the victims.

It added that the State Government is also imploring security agencies to collaborate, to provide the needed security across the state.
