World Breast Cancer Day

Zamfara State Government says it is sponsoring free breast screening and lumpectomy surgeries for one hundred carefully selected women to ensure access to lifesaving care for those who need it the most.

The governor’s wife, Hurriya Lawal, disclosed this while flagging off a five-day free breast screening against cancer at the Farida General Hospital and a walk against breast cancer in Gusau, the state capital.

The governor’s wife led other state government officials, including the Political Adviser to the Governor, Yahaya Yari, Chairman Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZASUBEB), Nasiru Anka, and representative of the Commissioner for Health, Yusuf Haske, as well as civil society organizations on a walk to sensitize and enlighten the people on the disease.

The walk against breast cancer took off from Farida General Hospital Gusau, through Freedom Square, to the former Central Roundabout, and to Government House, Gusau, where it terminated with messages of hope for the victims and survivors.

While addressing the people, Hurriya Lawal said they walked together in solidarity, proclaiming that no one faces breast cancer alone.

She said they stand united in support of those affected, honouring the strength of survivors and the memory of loved ones lost.

The governor’s wife announced that her office, with the support of her husband, Governor Dauda Lawal, has sponsored free breast screening and lumpectomy surgeries for 100 selected women.

She charged the people to march forward, hand in hand, towards a better future, to support every individual who faces breast cancer, with hope, encouragement, and victory.
