Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has lamented the poor maintenance of infrastructure and facilities which provided by government to make lives better for the people.
The Governor was speaking during the inauguration of the upgraded Maru General Hospital in Maru Local Government Area of the state
Governor Lawal had on assumption of office, declared a state of emergency in the health sector and commenced upgrading and renovation of hospitals and health facilities.
The Governor while inaugurating the upgraded General Hospital Maru said that it was equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that meet international standards.
He directed the State Ministry of Health to put adequate mechanisms in place to ensure that personnel are trained to handle the equipment with care and adequate maintenance of the facility to serve the people well.
Earlier, Governor Lawal laid the groundbreaking foundation for the reconstruction of the Mafara General Hospital in Talata Mafara Local Government Area which was built in 1972 and is due for a new one with well equipped state of the-art- facility.
Former Sokoto Governor, Yahaya Abdulkarim who was the Special Guest at the foundation laying ceremony, praised Governor Lawal’s efforts at improving healthcare facilities and services in the State.
The new General Hospital Mafara is a 200-bed capacity and it would provide secondary health services to the people of Talata Mafara Local Government and the construction is expected to be completed in six months.
