Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Mahadi Gusau has refused to appear before the State Assembly, to explain why he held a political rally at a time scores of persons were killed by bandits in five communities at Faru District of Maradun Local Government Area of the state.

The lawmakers condemned the action of the deputy governor for conducting the rally while the people were mourning the death of 56 persons.

As Deputy Governor Mahadi Gusau shunned the state Assembly by not appearing before it on Tuesday, the lawmakers have given him a two-day ultimatum to appear and answer questions on the allegations of official misconduct levelled against him.

A statement by the Director-General, Public Relations, of the State Assembly, Mustapha Jaafaru said, the extension of the 48 hours to the deputy governor, followed a motion moved by the Deputy Leader of the House, Nasiru Bello, representing Bungudu, and seconded by Shafi’u Dama, representing Gusau Two Constituency, in the state House of Assembly.

The lawmakers unanimously agreed to the motion through voice vote. The relationship between the Zamfara State Governor Bello Mohammed and his deputy, Mahadi Gusau became strained, when the governor defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The deputy governor decided to remain with the PDP.

A Federal High Court in Abuja restrained the House of Assembly from any move to impeach the Deputy Governor.
