A total of 58 persons were killed when terrorists invaded eight communities in Anka and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria recently contrary to the figure of 150 to 200 reported in some sections of the media.

The Emir of Bukkuyum, Muhammad Usman said 36 people were killed in one community attacked in his domain while the Emir of Anka, Attahiru Ahmad confirmed that 22 persons lost their lives in seven different communities attacked by the terrorists across Anka Local Government Area.

The traditional rulers said that the terrorists did not only kill the 58 people, they razed down communities, maimed, abducted several persons and destroyed property including foodstuffs among others.

Those displaced in the troubled communities are mostly women and children, who fled to the local government headquarters in Bukkuyum and Anka for safety.

Zamfara Governor, Bello Mohammed has visited Bukkuyum and Anka Local Government Areas to assess the security situation and provide immediate relief materials to cushion the hardship being experienced by displaced persons.

He assured of the State Government commitment to deploy more security operatives to protect troubled rural communities in the State that have recently come under consistent attacks by terrorists. Aerial surveillance aircraft has already been deployed to the troubled areas to safeguard the residents from the terrorists who are unleashing terror on them.

Governor Mohammed also explained that the State Government would not establish camps for internally displaced persons, IDPs and therefore it will return those displaced to their communities and ensure the security of their lives and property.
