The Zamfara State Police Command says it has foiled an attempt by armed bandits to block major highways and has arrested one suspect, Umar Alhaji Buhari, also known as Bingil.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar.
According to the statement, on December 21, 2025, at about 4:55 p.m., operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by ASP Aliyu Koko, while on patrol along the Tsafe–Yankuzo axis, received credible intelligence that armed bandits carrying sophisticated weapons had blocked the Tsafe–Yanwarin Daji road.
The police team swiftly responded and, upon arrival at the scene, the bandits opened fire, leading to a gun duel.
Police said during the exchange, some of the bandits fled into the bush with possible gunshot injuries, while others escaped through a nearby riverside.
However, one of the suspected bandits, Umar Alhaji Buhari, also known as Bingil, surrendered and was arrested.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will be thoroughly investigated before appropriate legal action is taken.
Meanwhile, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maikaba, has called on residents to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely and useful information to aid prompt response across the state.
